Gospel Reflection
The Feast of the Ascension was this week. We remember Jesus' Ascension into heaven, the end of his day-to-day presence with his disciples in the flesh. But it was also the beginning of a new stage in their relationship, one characterized by the presence of the Holy Spirit within each disciple, empowering each one. As Christians we have that same Spirit dwelling in us today, teaching us to love our neighbors and care for one another. Come to St. Luke's this weekend and watch for the Holy Spirit at work as we gather!

St. Luke’s
At the Feast of Pentecost the Holy Spirit enabled the apostle to speak in many languages. Do you know multiple languages? Readers of many languages are invited to take part in our liturgy by reading, in different tongues and all at the same time, the beginning of our first lesson. You don't need to register ahead of time. Just bring with you a copy of Acts 2.1-4 in the language you want to read. At the Feast of Pentecost, 23-24 May, after the lector announces the first lesson, please stand up where you are and together we will read these verses in our many languages. Afterward you may be seated as the lector then reads the entire lesson for us. If you have questions, ask Fr. Todd.

If you plan on participating, please see a sign up at the church entrance, as well as letting us know what you will bring to share. There will be a list of what is needed.

Ministry Corner
Due to the dedicated work of our Altar Guild, someone is bound to exclaim “The altar looks beautiful!” on any given day at St. Luke’s. This team sets the altar for each of the three weekend services, as well as for weddings, funerals, and other special services as needed. The work is holy, but not hard: Show up a ½ hour before the scheduled service to set up the altar. Once the service is over, clean what has been used. Training is provided, guidebooks abound, and new volunteers can shadow a more experienced one. This ministry is vital to our liturgies, helps one to become more spiritually grounded, and provides a wonderful opportunity to work with fellow parishioners. If you are interested in joining this ministry (and it’s for men, too!), please contact Karen G. at nj.goughs@gmail.com
Tea & Scones Book Club
We are continuing through June! Currently we are finishing up Madeleine L'Engle's A Circle of Quiet, which has sparked many conversations about life, God, and Christian ethics. Join us at 1:00 p.m. in the Fryer Room. You don't have to read the book first - Deacon Anne will share excerpts to get the conversation going. All are welcome!
Art Station Sunday!
Stop by the Art Table at Coffee Hour to make a tiny art book from a shipping label. You can make it during coffee hour or start it and then take it home to finish. Great for a shelf display, a junk journal, a bookmark, or even a gift tag!
Friends and Clergy Colleagues,
Grace to you and peace!
Our annual "Rise Against Hunger" event will take place on Saturday, May 16^th at New Dover United Methodist Church, 687 New Dover Road, Edison. Once again we will come together in assembly-line fashion to pack and ship. This year we've increased the number of meals to 40,000, the approximate number of children around the world who die of hunger or malnourishment each and every day. With the cuts in USAID, events such as this are more needed than ever!
Please share the link below with your congregation. Hitting the link on our website will enable them to sign-up. As in the past, we will have two shifts: 9-11 & 12-2.
If you've ever attended a Rise Against Hunger event you know how exciting and fulfilling it is to work in teams to fight hunger!
New Dover United Methodist Church
We are also in the process of collecting the $16,000 needed to pay for the food items we'll be packing. A third of what we raised on our 2025 Hunger Walk goes toward that figure. To help us make that goal, please make checks out to New Dover United Methodist Church and write "Rise Against Hunger" on the memo line. You can also donate through our website.
Thanks as always for you support of this vital work, and hope to see you at New Dover on May 17th!
Peace,
Chuck Coblentz
