Welcome to the E-News!

Connecting you to the events, meetings & services at St. Luke’s, Metuchen - January 22, 2026

This has been a snowy winter, and more is on the way! Please use your discretion in leaving your home and making your way to church when there are adverse conditions like snow, ice, wind, or rain. Even if you have responsibilities in liturgy, we will get by without you if you don't feel completely safe to travel in.

Also, if at any time the Governor of NJ declares a stateemergency traffic to stay off the roads, all in-person gatherings will be canceled EXCEPT the 10am Sunday service. That service will welcome those who care to walk in and, as long as we have power and Internet, will be live-streamed.

Watch our livestream any time it doesn't make sense for you to travel: https://www.youtube.com/@StLukesMetuchen

Gospel Reflection

This week's Gospel lesson portrays Matthew's account of the beginning of Jesus' ministry in earnest. It happened after John the Baptist's ministry was abruptly changed. John was too willing to speak truth to power and call out the political leader of his time (a divisive figure
who was beloved by some and hated by others). Jesus picks up where John left off and begins to invite allegiance to a whole different system: "From that time Jesus began to proclaim, 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.'"

Even as the kingdom of Herod was destroying lives and arresting innocent people, Jesus pointed to a larger reality, one which was more important and even more impactful than the corruptions and cruelties of the kingdom of Herod. Which system of government, which view of the world, which way of speaking about reality holds your attention? Which kingdom does your life proclaim? Which system shapes your thoughts, your words, and your behaviors: the kingdom of heaven or something lesser?

Come to St. Luke's this week and let's talk about this together.
