Connecting you to the events, meetings & services

Gospel Reflection

Ten bridesmaids attend a wedding. Five are called wise, five are called foolish. You can tell which is which because the wise ones took part in the wedding and the foolish ones missed out. What is it that distinguishes the wise and the foolish? Come to St. Luke's this weekend as we explore this question together.

Why do we pray for this place? Haiti

As part of our Prayers of the People, we pray for those in need and name countries - but why do we name those particular countries? Let’s look at Haiti:

Haiti has been experiencing political turmoil since the assassination of its president in 2021. The government is essentially nonexistent - there have been no elections and power has been compromised by the presence of armed gangs. Violence has disrupted livelihoods and nearly half of the population is experiencing food insecurity. The healthcare system is severely impacted by staff and supply shortages, and cases of cholera are on the rise as only one of the three water treatment plants is operating.
Pray for stability and relief in the lives of the people of Haiti.

Pumpkin Patch “in the books”!

The pumpkins are gone. We sold over $15.000 in pumpkins and St Luke's made over $6.500 profit. The leftover pumpkins were picked up by five small family owned Farms to feed their animals, some were loaded into cars and transported to Rutgers to feed their pigs (see pictures above), the rest were picked up buy Dwyer Community Garden in Edison to compost.
Thank you to everybody that helped to make this Pumpkin Patch a success!

Announcements

St. Luke’s

Livestreaming Volunteers We are looking for volunteers to join our team of people who livestream the 10am Sunday service. We will have a short training session after the service on November 8. See Becky F for more details.

No BAH HUMBUGS allowed this year!! We are planning on having an enhanced reading of Charles Dickens classic A CHRISTMAS CAROL, with full cast rehearsal on Sunday 12/6 during Coffee Hour, and our performance on Sunday 12/13 during Coffee Hour in the church hall. If anyone was scheduled to assume a role in this production last year and wishes to continue with that, please see me this Sunday. I am sure that I will still be recruiting for parts so will likely be approaching you within the next week or so regarding casting. As we had planned last year, our own Mo. Crafton will be directing this production. I know this will be great fun and that Mother Nature will cooperate regarding the weather….God bless us, Everyone! Deacon Carol

Children’s Formation will be the topic of a discussion organized by Vestry member Erica N. and Fr. Todd during Coffee Hour on Sunday, 15 November. We will discuss the current programming and what we would like to see at St. Luke's. All parents, grandparents, guardians and supporters (e.g. children's chapel volunteers) are warmly welcome to join us.

Tea & Scones Book Club meets at 12:30 (after Coffee Hour Forum) in the Fryer Room. All are welcome to our discussion of Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott, whether or not you have read the book. Contact Deacon Anne if you need a door code.

2026 Christmas Pageant
The Christmas Pageant, which takes place at the 4pm service on Christmas Eve, is fast approaching. Participation is open to all children and teens of the parish, and their friends. Parents may also have roles, and we of course need an infant to be Baby Jesus.
Here is a list of roles generally filled by teens:
Reader
Mary
Joseph
Roles generally filled by teens or older children:
Angel Gabriel
Three Kings
Star Bearer
Other roles:
Animals
Angels
Shepherds (can also be parents of animals)
Baby Jesus
Angel (Parent of Baby Jesus)
We are also looking for teens and children who would like to sing with the choir for the second part of the service. This would involve Communion Anthem(s), Service Music, and Hymns. Choristers must be able to read.
Rehearsals for children who can read start this Sunday, November 8th.
Rehearsal should run one-hour each week. We will take a break on the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend (November 29th), and resume on December 6th. Rehearsals for all other roles will begin December 6th, also at 11:45 AM at the piano in the Nave.
For teens who need volunteer hours, participation in the Pageant generally fulfills that requirement, and we will provide letters attesting to hours spent volunteering. Please contact Julia J. (848) 482-9631 or Kasi L. (732) 662-0509 to register.

Do you know someone who is looking for office space on a regular basis? We ask you this after having a conversation with Michael DeBlasio, Director of Real Estate Development for the Diocese. Fryer Hall has rooms available during the week and Mike suggested we rent these spaces for more regular income. Someone might only need space one or two days a week for a few hours. Perhaps a therapist needs a room, Board of Ed might be looking for an office off campus or Municipal Government needs extra space. There might be a teacher out there who would like to provide extra help in a non-home setting. Please put your ear to the ground or ask around your neighborhood. We are working on pricing. Right now we want to know if this is a viable option for us. Steady income makes it easier for us to continue and grow our ministries at St. Luke’s. You and your prospect may reach out to the wardens and office. Thank you.
