Gospel Reflection

Our readings this week concern the gap we experience between the promises of the Gospel and our immediate circumstances. Sometimes an encounter with death can shake our faith and we are tempted to lose hope. Jesus offers us the hope that the God we worship is "the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Now he is God not of the dead, but of the living; for to him all of them are alive." Death is a milestone in a relationship, but not an ending. Our faith invites us to a larger perspective. Come to St. Luke's this weekend as we explore this together.

Sunday, 9 November at 9am in the Fryer Room Join a small but interesting group of Lukans who study scripture together every Sunday from 9am to 9.45. We just finished both books of the Kings, and next week we’ll start the book of Esther. Certainly the book of Exodus contains is the foundational stories of Judaism, but if you were to ask a Jewish child to name a favorite Bible book, s/he would probably choose Esther. It’s the story of how the Jewish people were saved by a wise and beautiful queen. On the feast of Purim, people dress up like the characters and everyone has fun— like our Halloween. Let’s read the story together, starting this Sunday.

Sunday, 9 November, 11:30am Special Meeting We will be voting on amending the By-Laws with respect to Vestry. The change is to decrease the number of Vestry members from 9 to 7. In order to vote your Baptismal record must be on file at St. Luke's and you must be a giver of record (pledger).

Tuesday, 11 November Office closed Veterans Day

We will be having a Christmas Pageant at the early service on Christmas Eve. We hope all children and teens of the parish will participate. There are parts for kids of all ages, newborn through grade 12. For more information please contact Julia Jenson.
