Gospel Reflection
Friends of St. Luke's
Our pledge drive has been focused on members of St. Luke's. But there are quite a few among us who, while not technically members (with a baptism date on file) or identifying as Christians, nevertheless find a social and even spiritual community in St. Luke's that you value. Ours is a wonderfully diverse community, reflecting the rich, complex, and comprehensive nature of our Creator. You may not be a member but a committed "Friend of St. Luke's."
Friends of St. Luke's are also invited to offer a pledge in support of their chosen community.
Giving is not a value confined to Christians, but is at the heart of many world religions. Indeed, the practice of giving is simply an element of the rich inheritance Christians have received from our Jewish elder siblings.
Whether you are a member of St. Luke's or a Friend of St. Luke's, you are invited to offer a pledge online this week or to find a pledge card when you come in this weekend, fill it out, and place it in the offering plate. Together we will continue to exclaim, "We are St. Luke's!"

Sunday, 2 November, 9am Pickling & Pesto Sale from Garden Goodies.
Jim & Patrick will be selling pickling and pesto, much of which came from our community garden. The nominal fee will cover the cost of containers and serve as "seed" money for next year's planting. The sale will take place after 8 AM service and during Coffee Hour. Please stop by and support the effort!
Sunday, 2 November at 2pm You are invited to participate in the MEAICA Annual Hunger Walk: a 5k course around Metuchen with ample time for conversation with our siblings from other local houses of worship. The walk is a loop which begins 2pm at Centenary United Methodist Church (200 Hillside Ave, Metuchen). You can find sponsors or just make a donation to the cause. Proceeds should be returned to the office or placed in the offering plate in an envelope clearly marked MEAICA Hunger Walk.
Wednesday, 5 November at 12:15pm Join us as we celebrate All Souls' Day (Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed). Weather allowing, we will celebrate with a Eucharist outdoors in the Memorial Garden. You are invited to bring a photo and a brief story about someone you wish to remember, whether they are buried in the Memorial Garden or elsewhere. We will place their photos on the altar and celebrate Holy Eucharist in the presence of their memories.
Saturday, 8 November, 1pm The Burial Mass for Robin Brown will take place at St. Luke's. At 2.15pm that afternoon there will be a Community Discussion for those who wish to reflect on Robin's life and legacy.

Sunday, November 9, 11:30am Special Meeting We will be voting on amending the By-Laws with respect to Vestry. The change is to decrease the number of Vestry members from 9 to 7. In order to vote your Baptismal record must be on file at St. Luke's and you must be a giver of record (pledger).
Trinkets & Treasures: It’s Christmas Gift Time!
It’s time to search your closets, cabinets, and attics for gift items for the Trinkets & Treasures booth at the St. Luke’s Christmas Fair!
We need new or like-new items that are appropriate for gifting. Vintage items in good condition are especially welcome! Think of small treasures like:
Jewelry
Small home decor items
Candles and candle holders
Silver, crystal, vintage glassware
Handcrafted items
Pottery
Collectibles
Small antiques
No rummage sale items, please - save those for the spring.
Think: What would you like to receive as a gift? What would you give to someone else?
Place your donations on the stage in Fryer Hall beginning November 14, and then consider helping us for an hour or two with setup. We will need the most help on Fair Day, December 6 between 9:30 and 4:30. Questions? Suggestions? Contact Deacon Anne through the church office or email ainerae@yahoo.com.
Donations of homemade baked goods are needed to sell at Saint Luke’s Christmas Fair
Examples of requested goodies include: Brownies, Shortbreads, Cookies, Fudge, Scones, Pastries, Muffins, Cupcakes, Banana Bread., Cranberry Bread. Please wrap/bag items for sale individually or small numbers (3 or 4). Items can be brought to the Auditorium on Friday, December 5th between 9a and 8p, or Saturday, December 6th between 8 and 9:30 am. Donations to Gift Baskets for Christmas Fair
St. Luke’s parishioners, the Gift Basket table really needs your help.
Below is a list of basket themes we were planning on making and some possible items to purchase for the basket
Children games for ages over 13 to adults (looking for: various board games, card games, puzzles …)
Children games for ages 5 to 12 (looking for: various board games, card games, puzzles …)
Baby items (any baby items, diapers, wash clothes, bottles, baby games, …)
Cookies for Santa (cookie sheet or sheets, cookie mix or from scratch, decorations, apron, cookbook, cookie cutters …)
For the Birds (suet cakes, bird food, bird book, binoculars, bird house…)
It’s roasting in here (roasting pan, carving board, roasting spices, roasting bags, cookbook…)
Gardening ( gardening gloves, kneeler pad, gardening tools …)
Italian (pastas, sauce, spices, red and white checkered tablecloth, bottle of red wine, red wine glasses, Italian cookbook, olive oil…)
Wine and Cheese (crackers- variety, red wine, white wine, charcutier board, …)
Coffee (ground coffee – various flavors, creamers, mugs, espresso coffee, Biscotti, Panettone …)
Martinis (bar drink book, Gin, Vodka, pearl onions, olives, Vermouth, mixing glass strainer, …)
Pamper yourself (bath salts, fragrant candles, lotions, …)
Tea (various boxed teas, biscuits, honey, sugar crystal stirrers, short bread cookies, loose leaf teas …. )
Thanksgiving (thanksgiving decorations, fall tablecloth, oven mitts, …)
Hanukkah (gelt, decorations, tablecloth …)
Soup and Sandwich (soup cookbook, soups, crackers …)

We are also Monetary donations to allow us to purchase items

If you would like to sponsor a basket, the basket Elf’s would be happy to assemble what you purchase.
