For millennia, humankind has acknowledged the renewing and healing powers of the four elements. Both ancient native and more recent traditional religions find in them symbols and actual material appropriate to connect believers with the spiritual.
While some approach the natural elements as sensory connections in rituals, the religious practices of others call believers to study and deepen their knowledge of the natural world as a way to further know their creator.
This exhibit is intended to visually explore all of those ways the natural elements become sacramental.
What's more, we are interested to consider new and diverse uses of materials as well as work that may even become rituals themselves.
